One of the best ways to learn new technology is with hands-on experience. During this workshop you will have an opportunity to set up Oracle 12c Real Application Cluster environment on your laptop, go through advanced RAC related setup scenarios or work together with other technical geeks on solving RAC related challenges.

     Register here

Experienced RAC Attack volunteers (ninjas) will help you address any related issues and guide you through the setup process. Depending on personal experience, participants have four options to choose from:

    • RAC 12c installation - participants install Oracle Virtualbox, Oracle Linux, Oracle 12c RAC and configure those components to work together.
    • RAC 12c automated setup - participants setup a Vagrant + Ansible environment and get RAC 12c installed automatically using open-source scripts developed by the community.
    • RAC 12c advanced tasks - for those who have 12c RAC on their laptops already, the workshop has to offer to go through a set of advanced scenarios. Each scenario focused on a particular RAC 12c features to learn and explorer.
    • RAC freestyle - several geeks join in groups to work on RAC related challenges

RAC Attack isn’t just about RAC. During the workshop you learn how to setup one of the most complex infrastructures on your laptop. You learn how to configure and clone virtual machines, how to create and setup internal and external virtual networks, create different storage types, setup a local DNS server and other challenging components.

After this workshop you have enough knowledge to setup a test/sandbox environment for virtually any product.

     Register here.

To participate in the workshop, participants need to bring their own laptop. Recommended specification:

    a) any 64 bit OS that supports Oracle Virtual Box

An Introduction to JavaScript for APEX Developers (APEX)

Oracle Application Express (APEX) is a declarative framework that allows people with knowledge of SQL and PL/SQL to create sophisticated web applications. The framework does an excellent job of abstracting away most of the browser technologies needed to create web applications and even includes a declarative interface to JavaScript called Dynamic Actions. However, many APEX projects include requirements that are not supported out of the box. In this session attendees will see how a little knowledge of JavaScript and jQuery can be used with Dynamic Actions to solve such a business requirement.

An Introduction to JavaScript Apps on Oracle Database (Node.js)

JavaScript MVC frameworks, such as AngularJS, are an increasingly popular choice for creating highly sophisticated, single page applications (SPAs). Middle tiers for such applications are most commonly written using Node.js, which provides developers with many tools for operations such as creating RESTful URLs, handling user sessions, and connecting to databases. Oracle offers several technologies, such as the Oracle Database Node.js Driver, that greatly assist in the development of these types of applications. In this session attendees will learn about some of these new technologies and how they can be leveraged to help create modern web applications with more power and flexibility ever before.

Having started his development career in the land of MySQL and PHP, he was only too happy to have stumbled upon Oracle Application Express (APEX). Since then, he’s dedicated his programming efforts to learning more about Oracle and web based technologies in general. These days he enjoys sharing his passion for JavaScript and Oracle via his blog at https://jsao.io.

The Georgia Oracle Users Group invites you to our July 2015 Quarterly Tech Symposium on July 23rd in Atlanta, GA.  This event represents the third in a series devoted to bringing industry experts to Atlanta for our users.  Attendance to this half-day event features Kellyn Pot'Vin-Gorman (@dbakevlar). Kellyn will be presenting on the power of AWR, ASH, and ADDM in 12c. We also have Loc Nhan of Oracle presenting on database patching using Enterprise Manager 12c.

The Power of the AWR Warehouse and Beyond

The Enterprise Manager 12c Release 4 is accompanied with the new AWR Warehouse feature, which allows you to automatically extract detailed performance data from your database targets and consolidate the data into a single location within the AWR Warehouse repository. The main source of data stored in the AWR Warehouse is derived from the Automatic Workload Repository (AWR), via AWR snapshots, letting you retain long-term history of AWR data from chosen EM12c database targets, enabling full historical analysis of AWR data across databases without impacting the source or user database.

This session will cover the power behind this incredible new feature, a full review of the architecture, ETL process and then onto what everyone who’s worked with AWR data really wants to know- What is the impact to the existing suite of AWR queries and how much can it really provide the business and the DBA when searching for answers.

Database 12c New AWR, ASH and ADDM Features Using EM12c and Beyond
The Automatic Workload Repository, (AWR) and Active Session History, (ASH) have been the defacto choice of any optimization DBA when investigating performance issues in Oracle. With the addition of the Automatic Diagnostic Database Monitor, (ADDM) comparison reports and other new features, we’re able to add a whole new level with the introduction of Oracle version Database 12c.

This session will dig in deep to the new additions to the AWR and ASH reports, along with the benefits of advanced investigation, trouble-shooting and diagnostics with Enterprise Manager 12c and the command line with SQL*Plus to show the power of the “always- on” approach of the AWR for the DBA who requires data behind their findings to ensure they never assume or guess, which is the first step to losing one’s credibility.

Kellyn will demonstrate how to translate the new wait events, new additions to reports and what steps can be taken for individual findings to gain a new perspective and answers that the business needs in the “I need the answer now” demands of a DBA’s world.

Database patching with Enterprise Manager 12c

It is essential to apply patches to keep databases current, secure, or simply to have bug fixes. The Patch Management feature of Enterprise Manager 12c helps automate patching, reduce time spent on patching, minimize downtime, as well as standardize patching procedures.

In this session, we will discuss using EM12c for patching Oracle databases and related software components. We will focus on how to set up an EM12c infrastructure for patching, patching workflows, tips for avoiding common pitfalls and getting the best out of the patching feature.
